Mogwai are back with the announcement of a 2025 world tour and the release of a new single, “God Gets You Back.”
Kicking off with a European leg on February 4th in Amsterdam, Mogwai’s 2025 tour will make stops in Stockholm, Paris, London, and other cities before hopping eastward for an Asian leg (with stops in Thailand, Japan, and Taiwan). After that, the band will come stateside on April 7th for a show in Washington DC, followed by dates in Boston, Montreal, Chicago, Los Angeles, and more.
Tickets for the tour will first become available via an artist pre-sale opening on Wednesday, September 18th at 10:00 a.m. local time. General on-sale will then open on Friday, September 20th, at 10:00 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster.
Speaking about the tour, Mogwai’s Stuart Braithwaite said, “We are immensely excited about heading out on our first worldwide tour since the pandemic. We’re going to some brilliant places and can’t wait to perform our new songs.” Check out the full list of dates below.
As for the single, “God Gets You Back” is a hypnotic alt rock song, grounded by a repeating synth arpeggio and colored with dreamy, atmospheric counter-melodies. Lyrically, it features lines penned by band member Barry Burns’ daughter. “[We] needed some melody or vocals, but I couldn’t come up with the lyrics so I asked my 7-year-old daughter to make some up, and she did and I sang them,” he said in a statement.
“God Gets You Back” arrives with a music video directed by Hand Held Cine Club (Justin and James Lockey). Watch it below.
Mogwai released their last album, As the Love Continues, in 2021.
