Metallica are taking over Fortnite for themed gameplay across all modes as well as special in-game concert events.
The thrash legends will become the first band to “take centerstage across all Fortnite experiences” beginning Thursday (June 13th). Each game mode (Fortnite Festival, Battle Royale, LEGO Fortnite, Rocket Racing) will feature Metallica-themed gameplay throughout the month.
The takeover will culminate with the “Metallica: Fuel. Fire. Fury.” playable concert events, which will take place across two days only: June 22nd (2 p.m. ET; 5 p.m. ET; and 11 p.m. ET) and June 23rd (10 a.m. ET; 2 p.m. ET; and 5 p.m. ET). A press release stresses that these are the only times to catch the concerts “live,” with players running through “six of Metallica’s fan-favorite songs with themed gameplay that complements the intensity of a Metallica live show.”
Metallica are also headlining Season 4 of the previously mentioned Fortnite Festival, which also launches on Thursday (June 13th) to coincide with the band’s in-game appearances. This new season of Fortnite Festival introduces the Battle Stage, “a new competitive way to play the rhythm music game” that will see 16 players in a match, all playing the same four-song setlist featuring the classics “Enter Sandman” and “Master of Puppets.”
Fortnite is free to play on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, Android, and PC. Learn more via the game’s website.
Metallica also have some real-life concerts on the books. The band is in the midst of a European leg of their ongoing “M72 World Tour,” with a new North American leg kicking off August 2nd and 4th at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts (get tickets here).
