Mercury Rev have released “Ancient Love,” the second single from their upcoming album, Born Horses. The track comes accompanied by an abstract, naturalistic music video. Watch it below.
“Ancient Love” is celestial, dreamy, and backed by wailing guitars and horns. Overtop such a sonic backdrop, spoken word vocals recite flowery, beat-inspired poetry. Fittingly, the band has cited musical minimalists like Tony Conrad and writers like Robert Creeley as inspirations.
“What we are today comes from our thoughts and perceptions of yesterday, and our present thoughts build our life for tomorrow,” the band said of the tune in a statement. “Our life is the creation of our mind which originates from ancient love.”
“Ancient Love” was preceded by lead single “Patterns.” Born Horses, which marks the act’s first new album in almost a decade, arrives September 6th via Bella Union.
