Mastodon Part Ways with Singer-Guitarist Brent Hinds

Mastodon have announced that they’ve parted ways with singer-guitarist Brent Hinds, marking the first change in the acclaimed metal band’s lineup in a quarter century.

The band stated, “Friends and Fans, After 25 monumental years together, Mastodon and Brent Hinds have mutually decided to part ways. We’re deeply proud of and beyond grateful for the music and history we’ve shared and we wish him nothing but success and happiness in his future endeavors.”

Mastodon continued, “We are still very inspired and excited to show up for fans in this next chapter of Mastodon. As we move forward, all 2025 touring plans will remain intact. We look forward to seeing you on the road.”

Aside from briefly working with singer Eric Saner during their formation in 2000, Mastodon’s lineup had remained original members Hinds, singer-bassist Troy Sanders, singer-drummer Brann Dailor, and guitarist-vocalist Bill Kelliher until now.

The band made no mention of a replacement, but could very well continue on as a three-piece, as all instruments are covered between Sanders, Dailor, and Kelliher.

As Mastodon stated, they will stick to their tour plans, which includes an appearance at Tool’s Dominican Republic island festival Tool in the Sand that kicks off today (March 7th), as well as a co-headlining spring tour with Coheed and Cambria that launches May 10th in Salem, Virginia. Mastodon are also slated to play the final Black Sabbath/Ozzy Osbourne concert on July 5th in Birmingham, England, as well as a couple of UK dates with Slayer on July 3rd and 6th.
