Mariah Carey addresses rumors that her 2024 Spotify Wrapped video message to fans was AI-generated.

Mariah Carey recently thanked her top listeners for Spotify Wrapped 2024 in a video message that has some fans convinced it was AI-generated. But Carey was quick to address the rumors with a tweet.

“Bad lighting and a red lip have you all thinking this is AI??” the singer wrote on Thursday (December 5), reposting the original video from a fan account on the former Twitter. “There’s a reason I’m not a fan of either of those things!”

The video sees Carey in a Santa-inspired red dress with white trim and red lipstick. “Your support through the years is the greatest gift I could ask for,” she says in the clip. “This year, we’re celebrating the 30th anniversary of my album, Merry Christmas. I hope you enjoy listening to it, and I can’t wait to share new music with you soon.”

“I can’t tell if this is AI,” wrote one commenter on the original clip. Another quipped, “It must be hard being so gorgeous that nobody believes you’re real.”

The Queen of Christmas was one of many artists to record a thank-you message for their top listeners as part of 2024’s Spotify Wrapped, which rolled out on Wednesday, (December 4). The platform also revealed its most popular musicians and tracks this past year, in addition to listeners’ personalized top-streamed artists and songs.

Among the most-listened artists were Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, and Bad Bunny, while Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso,” Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things,” and Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” appeared in the most played songs.

Mariah Carey is finishing up her 2024 holiday tour, with her next show set for Saturday, December 7, in Baltimore. The tour wraps up on December 17 with a performance in Brooklyn. The songstress’ evergreen holiday hit, “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” has also made its annual return to the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 this week, reaching #10 on this week’s chart.
