Mappe Of, the avant-folk project of multi-instrumentalist Tom Meikle, has returned with a mesmerizing new single, ‘Happiness In The Singularity,’ out now via Paper Bag Records.
‘Happiness In The Singularity’ is a cyborg of a song, seamlessly merging the real and the digital in a stuttering-yet-smooth 7/8 waltz. It glides through a landscape of decaying VHS memories and corrupted .mp4 files, where the interplay of a delicate piano and glitchy, artificial clicks creates the sensation of standing inside an existential control room. The track embodies nostalgia and technological unease, urging listeners to consider the preservation of their own identities in an increasingly digital world.
Meikle explains:
“This track represents a reflection on legacy. I had been thinking a lot about the idea of legacy, particularly the way it evolves as technology captures so much of who we are… We’re in this strange moment in history where we’ve witnessed the beginning of a feasibly infinite legacy, where hundreds of years from now, someone could download our digital records and get a decent idea of who we were as people.”
‘Happiness In The Singularity’ is out now.
