Madonna limited Netflix series in works after scrapped biopic

She’s getting into the streaming groove.

After her big-screen biopic was scrapped in 2023, Madonna is taking her life story to Netflix in a limited series that is in early development, Deadline reports.

And Julia Garner, who was attached to star in the feature film, could still play the Material Girl in the limited series, executive-produced by “Deadpool & Wolverine” director Shawn Levy and the Queen of Pop herself.

Madonna’s feature biopic, which the singer co-wrote and was set to direct, was announced in 2020.

“I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer – a human being, trying to make her way in this world,” she said at the time of the Universal Pictures feature. “The focus of this film will always be music. Music has kept me going, and art has kept me alive.”

Garner, 31, reportedly won the lead role after auditioning in a singing and dancing boot camp with the likes of Florence Pugh, “Euphoria” actress Alexa Demi and singer Bebe Rexha.

However, the biopic was reportedly put on hold for Madonna, 66, to focus on her global Celebration Tour that launched later that year.

Still, she kept hope alive for the project by posting a photo with Garner on Instagram, captioning it: “Bitch, we’re Madonna!” Even more, the Emmy-winning “Ozark” actress appeared onstage with the singer at the Brooklyn stop on her tour in December 2023.

In July 2024, biopic rumors reignited when Madonna shared a photo of a typewriter as she made edits to a movie script. In November, though, the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer seemed to be rethinking the platform in which to tell her life story — after “struggling for days in LA, listening to producers and agents tell me why I couldn’t make my film,” she wrote on Instagram.

After being told to “downsize” and “think smaller,” Madonna continued, “I realized that everything in my life is going to be challenged. No easy rides for me.”

But she was “grateful” for the experience making her “think outside the box” about the project.

“I did not have a normal life,” she wrote. “I cannot make this in the normal way.”

She continued, “We cannot shrink and make ourselves smaller. If you want something badly enough in life — the whole universe will conspire to [help] you get it.”
