Having teased us for the past few months with a string of pre-release singles stretching back to April, Lil Silva has finally dropped his debut album, Yesterday Is Heavy. The album’s release follows the singles “Backwards” featuring Sampha, “Another Sketch”, “What If?” with Skiifall, “Leave It” with Charlotte Day Wilson, and “To The Floor” with BADBADNOTGOOD.
The new project is the culmination of over a decade in the music industry for Lil Silva, having first cut his teeth with Bedford-based grime crew Macabre Unit before setting out on his own, first in the world of UK funky and then stretching out to explore various subgenres and styles.
Rounding out the rest of the features on the album are old friend and sparring partner Ghetts who joins Sampha on “Still”, Little Dragon’s Yukimi Nagano features on “Be Cool”, and serpentwithfeet wraps things up on album closer “Ends Now”.
There are also additional, behind-the-scenes contributions from writers and producers including Silva’s OTHERLiiNE collaborator George FitzGerald, singer and producer Jamie Woon, multi-instrumentalist and songwriters Mansur Brown and James Vincent McMorrow, highly prolific producer Kwes, and Benji B—who acts as the project’s executive producer—among many others.
