Eddie Murphy’s classic film series, Beverly Hills Cop, is back, and to help usher in the new era of Detective Axel Foley, Lil Nas X has unleashed the soundtrack single, “HERE WE GO!”
Sampling the original film’s iconic song, “Axel F,” Lil Nas X’s single builds a new pop bop around the timeless melody. Over a mid-tempo beat, he delivers flowing lines with Beverly Hills references, as well as a hard-hitting hook. Speaking about the track on Instagram, Lil Nas wrote that he was “so excited to release the best song of all time this friday!” Stream the single below.
Earlier in June, Lil Nas built up anticipation for “HERE WE GO!” by sharing a clip explaining that he had gotten into beef with Crazy Frog (who famously sampled “Axel F” in 2005), which is honestly hilarious. Watch it below.
The new Beverly Hills Cop movie, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, will arrive on Netflix on July 3rd, featuring Murphy reprising the titular role. In a clip posted to Netflix’s Instagram, Lil Nas is seen chatting with Murphy, commenting that providing a song for the soundtrack might be the most exciting thing he’s done in his career in his family’s eyes.
Praising Lil Nas’s single, Murphy said it was exciting to have “new music,” and that “HERE WE GO!” is “bananas.” You can watch that clip below too.
