Ryuichi Sakamoto, who tragically succumbed to cancer in March, was a trailblazer in the electronic music space, paving the way for the sounds of today through his influential work with the iconic Yellow Magic Orchestra.
In the wake of Sakamoto’s death, which sent ripples through the EDM community, his management has now released a 33-track playlist, which the late composer compiled to be played at his funeral. The playlist includes music by Johann Sebastian Bach, Ennio Morricone, Claude Debussy and more.
“He truly was with music until the very end,” tweeted Sakamoto’s management.
Throughout his life, Sakamoto collaborated with legendary musicians David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Bernardo Bertolucci and many more, inspiring and influencing an entire generation of producers. The Oscar winner pioneered sounds that impacted techno, synthpop and other electronic sub-genres.
