Norway’s Vidar Landa, better known as King Hüsky, steps away from his metal roots with Kvelertak to deliver the gentle, introspective single ‘Wish I Had A Dog,’ out now via Hype City Music.
‘Wish I Had A Dog’ marks the third single from Landa’s forthcoming self-titled debut album as King Hüsky. The track trades the explosive energy of his day job for a laid-back, college-alt-rock vibe that radiates shy innocence and sunlit simplicity. With a chugging rhythm and minimal production, it evokes the effortless charm of Real Estate, Belle and Sebastian, and Teenage Fanclub—bands known for their observational tenderness and awkwardly danceable melodies. Landa infuses the song with a humorous, reflective edge, drawing from nature and personal musings as he shifts “from extravagant pyro to unpaid giro.” It’s a versatile piece, functioning as a low-lit kitchen dancefloor anthem and a quiet moment of self-examination for the reclusive artist.
Landa says:
“This is the first King Hüsky song I wrote. It’s a catchy tune that has different meanings to me, and I hope the listener will find their own. But I guess it revolves around the themes of who we were and what or who we became. I wanted it to have a simplistic production feel to it, with a drum-machine feel to the drum beat. I think we managed to capture that.”
‘Wish I Had A Dog’ is a compelling glimpse into Landa’s evolution as a solo artist, blending wholesome emotion with a flowing, understated melody. It’s a track that invites listeners to sway along while pondering their pasts—stream it now and discover your own meaning within its gentle grooves.
