Norwegian artist King Hüsky dives into bizarre conversations and surreal logic on his latest single ‘Heads Above Water,’ out now via Hype City Music and Redeye Distribution.

The five-minute indie track is a glistening blend of college rock and observational songwriting, marking another unexpected turn in the career of Vidar Landa, best known as the guitarist of metal band Kvelertak. Under the King Hüsky moniker, Landa shifts from heavy riffs to upbeat, fuzz-drenched indie, layering dry wit over jangly guitars and offbeat commentary. ‘Heads Above Water’ continues the thread of satirical storytelling laid out on earlier singles ‘Running,’ ‘Lately I’ve Been Thinking Of Your Mother,’ and ‘Wish I Had A Dog,’ each teasing the full-length debut set to arrive on May 9, 2025.

The song explores the jarring disconnect between strange beliefs and everyday concerns—imagining a world where people casually link inflation to secret mazes while dealing with leaking bathrooms.

Landa says of the track:

“It’s fascinating when seemingly ‘normal’ people mention lizard people or other conspiracies as if it was just another topic of rational conversation. In writing ‘Heads Above Water,’ I wondered how people who think inflation is connected to secret mazes while licking a frog smuggled in from the Amazonas, can deal with everyday problems, like a bathroom leak or an insurance complaint.”

The track is part of King Hüsky’s forthcoming self-titled debut album, due May 9, which sees Landa working alongside his partner Anne Lise Frøkedal (formerly of Harry’s Gym and I Was A King), drummer Børge Fjordheim (Cloroform, Sivert Høyem), and musician/actor Arthur Berning. Drawing comparisons to Belle and Sebastian, Teenage Fanclub, and Real Estate, the album promises a warm and witty blend of the surreal and the sincere, released on vinyl, CD, and digital formats.
