Two for the Road is a series in which two artists touring together chat about playing shows, life backstage, and more. The latest installment of the series features thrash legend Kerry King chatting with Municipal Waste guitarist Ryan Waste.
Slayer legend Kerry King is heading out on his first headlining North American tour with his eponymous band this winter, and he’s bringing Municipal Waste and Alien Weaponry along for the ride.
The 28-date tour launches January 15th in San Francisco and runs through a February 22nd show in Los Angeles, making stops in Toronto, New York City, Dallas, and Las Vegas, and other cities along the way.
In advance of the outing, King and Municipal Waste guitarist Ryan Waste caught up over Zoom to discuss the tour and much more for Consequence‘s Two for the Road video series (watch above).
As the conversation started, Waste told King how much Slayer meant to him as a kid. “It was life-changing music for me,” began Waste. “I was into Sabbath and Priest and everything, but I had an older brother and he brought a Slayer tape home one day. It was Show No Mercy, and it seriously shaped my life.”
King, meanwhile, expressed his excitement for the upcoming tour, saying, “We were lucky enough to do the Mastodon-Lamb of God summer run in the sheds. That was really cool because [Slayer] had a big part in both those bands’ early history. … Now, we get to … headline the States. We haven’t played New York City yet, and that’s my new hometown … we haven’t played the Bay Area yet, so we’re gonna be hitting some places for the first time, which is gonna be awesome.”
During the course of the discussion, the two guitarists discovered a shared love of horror movies, each naming some of their favorite films of the genre. And they each recounted a real-life “Spinal Tap” moment, where things went hilariously wrong onstage.
