Kakao Entertainment launches global fan platform Berriz to a worldwide audience, where it hopes to offer a sweet spot for all manner of fandoms.

As a fan platform for K-culture, Berriz (pronounced like “berries”), aims to not only bring together fans of K-pop, but unite fans of content IPs, including drama, film, webtoons, and musicals.

“Despite having different sizes and shapes, berries become sweeter when they are put together,” Kakao Entertainment explains in a statement announcing the platform’s release. “Like berries, Berriz will establish its presence as a playground where K-culture fandoms worldwide can communicate and discover joy together, beyond genres and scopes.”

Jung Seung-hwan from Antenna was the first artist to join Berriz during its pre-opening period earlier this month. On the day of the platform’s official debut, girl group KiiiKiii created its fan community on Berriz to boost fan interaction. “Crushology 101,” a drama based on Kakao Entertainment’s popular webtoon, will also launch a fan community on Berriz shortly before its premiere in April.

Kakao Entertainment plans to bring in a bunch of artists under its labels, content IPs and various partners in the entertainment industry. Berriz offers services specialized for each IP, as well as diverse IP-tailored communities incorporating AI, e-commerce, and livestreaming. The platform is easy to modify and structure to suit the needs of its audience, setting Berriz up to provide an optimized community environment, not a standardized service.

Kakao aims to leverage its knowledge and experience in managing various platforms and channels — including Kakao Page, Melon, and 1theK — to create a new fandom culture in collaboration with fans. “As today’s fandoms seek to enrich their experiences through interaction and content sharing, Berriz will be able to cater to these demands and enhance overall engagement,” says Kakao.

Berriz is currently available on the web and mobile, both iOS and Android. The platform is currently available in 18 languages to kick-start its use as a global service for K-culture fans.
