Australian artist JVLY has unveiled his latest single, ‘Drowning In My Room,’ a deeply reflective track that offers a glimpse into the sonic world of his upcoming EP, Sunder.
Building on the atmospheric foundations set by previous singles ‘SOUTH’ and ‘LOCUM,’ ‘Drowning In My Room’ immerses listeners in a rich, introspective soundscape. The track’s textured production features warm Juno synth chords, a groove-driven bassline, and an ethereal, underwater-inspired guitar line. Lyrically, it explores the allure and pitfalls of self-pity, painting a vivid picture of emotional isolation within the larger, bustling world.
JVLY describes the song’s concept, explaining:
“‘Drowning In My Room,’ sits right in the middle of Sunder and it’s a direct look at the world I’m trying to bring you into. When you look at a high-rise building in a city, there’s a different story in every window, everyone’s got things going on in their own little world. I think DIMR is an ironic take on the traps of self-pity. Passing up ownership of issues doesn’t help anyone, but it’s easier to do because the blame gets shifted, and there’s something tempting in that, but how does that fix it, you know?
“As soon as I had those chords on the juno and that groove with the bass and drums, and that kind of underwater sounding guitar line, I knew this track was the one to speak to that part of the story.”
With its evocative storytelling and immersive production, ‘Drowning In My Room’ sets the stage for Sunder as a deeply personal yet universally relatable project.
