Justin Bieber and Scooter Braun have settled their massive financial dispute over the $30-plus million the singer owed as an advance from AEG.
Shortly after Scooter Braun stepped down as CEO of Hybe America, sources with direct knowledge told the press that Braun finally settled his financial dispute with Justin Bieber. The singer reportedly must pay $26 million that he still owed as part of an advance issued by AEG for the “Justice” tour, which never materialized.
In 2022, AEG paid the singer a $40 million advance for his tour, but the company demanded repayment when Bieber pulled the plug on the outing. Braun’s company, Hybe, agreed to pay AEG the amount owed, which left Justin having to pay Hybe (and essentially Braun) over the next decade. According to Braun’s camp, Bieber made one payment, and then stopped.
In the settlement, the 31-year-old Bieber has agreed to pay $26 million owed to Braun as part of the advance from AEG. Sources say the terms of the settlement also call for Braun to get back half of the $11 million (or around $5.5 million) which he claimed Justin owed him over various unpaid commissions throughout the years. Last month, talks of a settlement kicked off, urged on by increasing headlines that Bieber was in mountains of debt.
TMZ broke the news last week that the two parties had settled the dispute—the same day Bieber revealed he would be releasing his seventh album, Swag. That record is currently #1 on Apple Music, and the star has also launched a new fashion brand, SKYLRK.
Justin Bieber’s new leaf comes on the heels of the May documentary doubling down on claims that the singer sold his catalog due to increasing financial strain. “He is facing a lot of different demons right now,” said a source back in April. “He is making some really poor decisions lately, further impacting friendships, money, and business.”
