Memphis alt-rock outfit Joybomb has returned with their first release of 2025, the searing new single ‘I, Paparazzi,’ out now.
‘I, Paparazzi’ is a sharp commentary on the modern compulsion to perform and curate our lives online. Vocalist and guitarist Grant Beatty explains that the song is “is about self-surveillance, the degree to which we exploit ourselves and finely tailor and present real human experiences and desires to feed curated audiences for our own dopamine, social gratification, and sense of purpose or aggrandizement.” It’s a biting take on the performative loop of social media, where validation often feels like the new addiction.
Following the themes explored on their Modern Scripture EP—consumerism, political absurdity, and escapism—’I, Paparazzi’ is cut from the same cloth but sharpens its focus. Beatty is joined by Conner Booth (vocals, bass), Xander Sinclair (drums), and new member Luki Luvsik (guitar), giving the band a fresh dynamic. Longtime collaborator Matt Qualls returns to engineer, mix, and master the single, ensuring continuity with their previous sonic identity while allowing room for evolution.
The result is a powerful, introspective track that doesn’t just criticize culture from the outside, but reckons with the uncomfortable truth of complicity from within. ‘I, Paparazzi’ stands as a confident and cathartic release that positions Joybomb for an impactful year ahead.
Stay tuned for more music from Joybomb in 2025 as the band continues to push the limits of alternative rock with purpose and power.
