John Myrtle, the Birmingham-born troubadour, is back with a new single that’s sure to warm your soul. Entitled ‘How Do You Break a Heart?,’ this radiant piece is out now marking Myrtle’s triumphant return after a three-year hiatus.
John Myrtle returns after a three-year hiatus to share his newest track, ‘How Do You Break a Heart?’ Drawing inspiration from the likes of The Kinks and The La’s, Myrtle’s music has always been a breath of fresh air, and ‘How Do You Break a Heart?’ is no exception. Describing the song as a “2-minute bitesize gem of instinctive, nostalgic joy,” Myrtle’s latest offering showcases a sonic evolution, thanks in part to acclaimed producer Jonathan Rado.
Reflecting on the inspiration behind the track, Myrtle explains:
“The song was pretty much conceived in the studio. I had these chords which sounded like Burt Bacharach or something and we took it from there! After we got all the instrumentation down, I remember ad-libbing the words on the spot, which I’d never done before, and tried to treat the performance of the vocal like I was an actor on stage – someone crying out for help.”
‘How Do You Break a Heart?’ is out now on your favorite DSP.
