Joey Badass insists his project delay had nothing to do with Drake.
Hours before he was expected to release his long-awaited 2000 album, Joey took to Twitter to announce he was postponing the effort because of “clearance issues.” He didn’t provide many details, but reassured fans he would likely have a new drop date by Monday and the album should arrive in less than two weeks.
“I wanted to have a new date before I told you guys but it’s out of my control,” he wrote Thursday, before promoting his newly released Chance the Rapper collaboration. “I’ll keep you guys updated obviously, I’m almost certain I’ll have a new date by Monday. On the bright side me and Chance’s new song drops tmrw.”
The abrupt announcement came on the same day that Drake announced Honestly, Nevermind, his seventh studio album that arrived at midnight Friday. Some fans suspected Joey decided to push 2000 back to avoid competing with Drizzy’s surprise drop, which has already broken streaming records.
Joey caught wind of the theories, and immediately shot them down.
“Y’all thinking I pushed my album back because drake is comedy,” he tweeted. “Can’t say I ain’t happy tho hahaha […] I fux with this new drake tho.”
