Jamie xx has shared “F.U.,” a new collaborative song with R&B icon Erykah Badu.
The song appears on the deluxe edition of Jamie xx’s 2024 album In Waves, which is out digitally today. Built on a live sample of Erykah Badu, “F.U.” reprises the hybrid dance approach of In Waves by offering a raw, off-the-cuff vocal performance atop a clean, thumping house instrumental.
The collaboration between the two began when Jamie xx DJ’d a Primavera Sound after-party in Barcelona a few years ago, and Badu joined him onstage: “The decks stopped working and she just freestyled this incredible a capella performance, fully improvised, just her and the mic,” Jamie xx said in a statement. “I managed to record a bit of that, and it became the basis for the track. We connected about it when I was finishing the album and it became a track I really love.” Listen to “F.U.” below.
The deluxe version of In Waves features five additional songs, including “F.U.,” new track “Do Something,” and previously-released singles “It’s So Good,” “LET’S DO IT AGAIN,” and “KILL DEM.” In Waves, which arrived back in September 2024, landed on our list of the 50 best albums of 2024.
