For the first time in nine years, we’re getting a new Jamie xx album.
Back in 2015, the renowned DJ and producer released his debut solo album, In Colour. Since then he’s released a string of singles and remixes as well as I See You with his band, The xx. Now, he’s back on his own for the album’s monochromatic counterpart, In Waves.
Jamie xx recently took to social media to reveal the cover of In Waves, which fans may recognize follows the same stylistic pattern as its predecessor and his collaborative remix album, We’re New Here, with Gil-Scott Heron. He also shared a heartfelt message about how his growth in the years since.
“It’s been a while…and a lot has happened in that time,” he wrote. “Ups and downs, growing up, figuring stuff out and then forgetting it all many times over. Life changing events and world changing events. These waves that we have all experienced together and alone. I wanted to make something fun, joyful and introspective all at once. The best moments on a dance floor are usually that for me.”

Jamie xx has also dropped a new single from the album, “Treat Each Other Right,” alongside a dynamic music video that shows a bizarre party. With elderly ravers, nurses giving birth to plastic dolls and a Gordon Ramsey lookalike, his latest will certainly enthrall and perplex while scratching the itch of those looking for more of his club-ready sounds.
Check out the official music video for “Treat Each Other Right,” directed by Rosie Marks, below. Fans can pre-save In Waves here ahead of its release on September 20th, 2024.
