Welcome back to Fan Chant, a weekly column for K-pop fans, stans, and newbies alike. This week welcomes back the members of ITZY. As always, if you love reading Fan Chant, you can subscribe to my companion newsletter to get it delivered right to your inbox each week!
ITZY have big plans for 2024. Not even halfway through January, the group landed a comeback and started teasing a return to the road. “As this is our second world tour, we want to show that we have grown even more than the previous tour, and we want to prepare new stages that will surprise our MIDZY!” the members share collectively over email, referring to their fan base.
ITZY’s latest project, BORN TO BE, was a labor of love — but an especially happy one for Yeji, Ryujin, Chaeryeong, and Yuna, who participated in the songwriting and production of their music more than ever before. The group’s fifth member, Lia, has been on hiatus since September to focus on her health, and in a press conference around the album, Yeji shared, “Our aim is to present an even better version of ourselves when Lia returns.”
BORN TO BE marks the first time the members of ITZY have taken on the challenge of solo tracks, but they’re particularly excited about the results of the album. “I wanted to show BORN TO BE to MIDZY as soon as possible,” Yuna shares. “I hope you like it!”
“We prepared this album with joy,” confirms Yeji.
