Idris Elba, one of North America’s highest-grossing actors, is leveling up his love dance music after signing a multi-single deal with Defected, EDM.com‘s best record label of 2022.
The pact with Defected is a pivotal moment in Elba’s DJing and production career, providing a venerable platform for a number of upcoming singles, which will release under his IDRIS alias across Defected and its D4 D4NCE sub-label.
The announcement arrives hot off the heels of Elba’s remix of Fish Go Deep and Tracey K’s “The Cure & The Cause,” which released in celebration of Defected’s 25th anniversary.
Elba had performed at a handful of Defected’s international events, including parties at Miami Music Week and Manchester’s The Warehouse Project in 2023. The British icon’s first solo track with the label, “La Trumpeta,” is scheduled to release on March 8th and is said to showcase his “signature global sound in full force.”
“I am super excited to be able to announce this signing with Defected Records,” Elba said in a press release. “Since working with them on ‘No More Looking Back’ and playing various parties over the years with them, it felt like a natural fit to release a few of my original tracks with them. You guys ain’t ready for what’s coming.”
