Glasgow art-punks Humour offers a searing new glimpse into their upcoming debut album Learning Greek with the release of ‘Memorial,’ out now via So Young Records.
Fusing biting intensity with poetic weight, ‘Memorial’ is a snottily anthemic track that draws on classical mythology to explore modern emotional terrain. Set on the beach at Troy and inspired by Alice Oswald’s reinterpretation of the Iliad, the song transforms the ancient farewell between Hector and Andromache into a buzzing, breathless lament, driven by a propulsive rhythm section and razor-sharp guitars. At its core lies a reflection on death’s inevitability and the desperate stoicism required to face it.
Christoloudis had the following to say about the themes behind their new single and an album highlight:
“‘Memorial’ describes a scene from the Iliad in which Andromache must say goodbye to her husband Hector the night before he’s killed in battle. The main theme of the song is imminent disaster and trying to remain stoic in the face of it.”
‘Memorial’ is available to stream now. Learning Greek is out August 8th via So Young Records.
