Howard Stern was impressed with Drake and 21 Savage’s fake Howard Stern Show appearance.
The “interview” clip shared on Instagram splices existing footage of the SiriusXM radio personality with a video of Drake and 21 sitting on a couch on the set of what appears to be Stern’s program. “Absolutely NO filter with the incomparable @sternshow thanks for having us,” the IG caption read.
“He did this kinda interesting thing: instead of doing a press tour, he made up a fake press tour and released it. … And then he even put out a clip of me interviewing him,” Stern, 68, recapped on air, minus any mention of 21 Savage. “He edited himself in to look like he’s in our studio, and he’s answering questions from me using clips from a different interview. … Drake did such a good job that the news outlets are reporting on it as if it’s real.”
Howard then cut to Good Day Atlanta falling for the faux conversation and doing a story on Drake’s answer about settling down and getting married.
The promotional stunt was part of a fascinating rollout strategy for their collaboration album Her Loss, which included fake-yet-convincing “appearances” on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert, SNL, the cover of Vogue, and more.
Stern was ultimately inspired by it all. “We have enough material from all the shows we’ve done, we could just do our whole show like that,” he said.
Drake has come under fire for certain lyrics on Her Loss, including a line on “Circo Loco” that Megan Thee Stallion and many listeners perceived as being directed at her. Lil Yachty, credited as a co-writer on the song, tried to downplay the controversial line on Instagram Live.
“I know he’s not going to address it, because I know Drake,” Yachty explained. “It’s not about Megan, it’s about women lying about their butt shots, saying it’s real when it’s fake.”
Drake also took shots at DRAM, Ye, Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian, and more.
