Far Caspian, the project of Irish musician Joel Johnston, has shared a final glimpse into his new album Autofiction with the release of ‘Whim,’ a rich, atmospheric single that blends introspection with sonic vibrancy.

‘Whim’ finds Johnston grappling with the inner tension of overthinking, gently urging himself—and the listener—to engage with the world rather than remain stuck in their mind. Layered with textured instrumentation and carried by a sense of movement, the song reflects Johnston’s evolution as a self-sufficient artist: he wrote, produced, mixed, and performed every track on the upcoming LP within his own Leeds studio.

The single follows a string of acclaimed releases from Autofiction, including the title track, ‘An Outstretched Hand / Rain From Here To Kerry,’ and ‘First Day.’

“After producing Ellur, I was able to just say to myself: ‘I’m going to produce this Far Caspian album now. I’m presenting myself with these demos I’ve had for a while. Let me see what I can do with them as a producer, not as a songwriter.’”

‘Whim’ is out now.
