Dream Theater have released the music video for “Midnight Messiah,” the latest single from their forthcoming album, Parasomnia, arriving February 7th.
The track marks another milestone for the prog-metal masters, at it features the first lyrical contributions from drummer Mike Portnoy since 2009. The stickman returned to the band in late 2023 following a 13-year absence.

The catchiest of the album singles so far, “Midnight Messiah” opens with a lurching, slowed tempo that soon becomes a groove-laden riff workout. There’s hints of hard rock and classic metal, especially during the first half of the track, with the band busting out the solos and prog flexes during the latter half.
“It was great writing lyrics again and contributing this chapter to the Parasomnia story,” commented Portnoy in a press release. “DT fans may get a kick out of discovering some of the hidden nuggets I planted in the song referencing many of my past DT lyrics…and the music video is a great representation of the excitement of the first two tour legs we recently completed throughout Europe and South America. Just in time to prepare for our next leg throughout North America which we are so excited to embark on.”
That tour kickoff is just around the corner on February 7th — the same day the album drops — in Philadelphia. The North American leg of the band’s 40th anniversary trek will run through a sold-out March 22nd show at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Get tickets here.
