Drake says he pitched a TV show in the vein of his ‘God’s Plan’ music video to Amazon, but Jeff Bezos turned him down.
Drake hasn’t been a regular on the small screen since the early days of his career, but he’s shown interest in returning to his roots with a new television show. Last week, the Certified Lover Boy sat down with Kick streamer Adin Ross for a holiday stream in which he gifted lucky viewers monetary and other special prizes. The efforts sparked a discussion about the spirit of giving seen in his 2018 music video for “God’s Plan.”
“You see what we’re doing tonight? This is a thing that I wanted to do ever since I shot that [“God’s Plan”] video,” said Drake. “I asked Jeff Bezos… The word I got back is that he didn’t want to do it. I want to do God’s Plan the TV show, ten episodes a year.”
“I want to travel across the world,” he explained, describing his vision for the series. “I know there’s a lot of billionaires out there, people who have a lot of money, who don’t have a chance to put a face to their charitable donations.”
In the music video for “God’s Plan,” Drake is seen walking around Miami and giving money to random people. Rumors suggest that Drake used the video’s budget of $996,631.90 as the funds given out. But given Drake’s own net worth of around $250 million, it seems he wouldn’t need the backing of a billionaire to fund his vision for the TV show.
During the stream, Drake’s “Drizzmas Giveaway” included prizes like $100,000 for a Toronto-based artist, a dream vacation for a couple, a trip for two to see Drake perform in Australia next year, $250,000 each for two individuals, a luxury car, one year of rent for two winners, and vehicles for three families.
“I can’t even sleep,” said Drake, announcing the livestream in the days leading up to Christmas. “We are blessing so many people. It’s the greatest feeling in the world. I am READY.”
