British band Doves have made a powerful comeback with ‘Renegade,’ their first single in over four years. This track sets the tone for their upcoming album, Constellations For The Lonely, due for release on February 14, 2025.
‘Renegade’ channels Doves’ signature cinematic intensity, showcasing their knack for blending lyrics with grand, layered instrumentals. The track, fronted by Jimi Goodwin, is a lush exploration of dystopian themes, with a sound that feels expansive and grounded. Written and recorded in the band’s well-loved creative retreat, Frank Bough Sound III, ‘Renegade’ reflects Doves’ reflections on change and uncertainty amid turbulent times.
Drummer and co-songwriter Andy Williams explained:
“Looking at everyone’s lives over recent years, and considering the news at the moment, ‘Renegade’ feels a lot more loaded in retrospect. We wanted to go for a dystopian feel, thinking about Manchester itself over the next century or so. A totally imaginary thing… ‘Blade Runner’ set in our home city.”
‘Renegade’ is a fitting reintroduction to Doves’ world, blending personal and societal reflection with the lush soundscapes fans have come to love, making their long-awaited return a memorable one.
