Doves return with ‘Lean Into The Wind,’ a smoldering, emotionally charged single released digitally ahead of its limited-edition AA-side 10” vinyl drop for Record Store Day 2025.

Originally unearthed from the studio sessions for the band’s recent UK Top 5 album Constellations For The Lonely, ‘Lean Into The Wind’ is a gripping portrayal of vulnerability and temptation. The track pairs driving atmospherics with an undercurrent of unease, as Jimi Goodwin’s unmistakable vocals explore the consequences of addiction. While absent from the touring line-up, his presence is front and center here, reinforcing the song’s authenticity and emotional depth.

Goodwin says of the track:

“It’s all there in the lyrics, it’s about addiction. It’s drawn from a situation I was in at the time and, although I am inspired more by making songs about characters, this literally happened to me. Going to someone’s house, trying something and it consuming you within days. I am not ashamed of it; it’s a story of what can happen and it’s not uncommon. It happens to people every day, hopefully, it’s a cautionary tale.”

The release follows Doves’ sold-out UK tour and builds anticipation ahead of a full festival season, including a major headline show at Halifax’s Piece Hall on August 23. With Constellations For The Lonely now available and ‘Lean Into The Wind’ serving as a poignant new addition to their catalog, Doves continue to affirm their place as one of the UK’s most compelling alternative rock acts.
