Doechii Recruits Kodak Black for “What It Is (Block Boy)”

Not long after picking up Billboard’s Women in Music Rising Star Award, Doechii has teamed up with Kodak Black for her new song “What It Is (Block Boy).”

Her first single of 2023, “What It Is” sees Doechii make it clear what got Top Dawg interested in signing her. To coincide with the track, Doechii also shared a cinematic music video. Ahead of the release, she described her and Kodak as “Florida royalty.”

It’s not clear if the song is taken from a forthcoming project, but the TDE-signed rapper already has one major non-music project on the horizon. She’s set to star in the A24-produced coming-of-age film Earth Mama, from director-writer Savanah Leaf in her feature-length directorial debut. Doechii will appear opposite Tia Nomore, Keta Price, Erika Alexander, Bokeem Woodbine, and fellow musician Dominic Fike. She’s also set to play Pharrell’s Something in the Water Festival in Virginia Beach next month.

The track arrives with five alternate versions, some without Kodak, some sped up, and some slowed down.
