Dax Riggs marks his long-awaited comeback with the evocative new single ‘sunshine felt the darkness smile,’ ahead of the release of his first album in 15 years, 7 Songs for Spiders, dropping this Friday, January 24.

The track showcases Riggs’ signature fusion of soul-stirring melodies, otherworldly lyrics, and a hauntingly experimental soundscape. Described by Riggs as “like a roller coaster ride in the dark,” the song delves into profound themes, offering what he calls “a meditation on the shadow of the oak tree” and a gaze into the duality of comedy and tragedy. Following the earlier releases of ‘even the stars fall’ and ‘deceiver,’ this single completes the trio of teasers from an album poised to explore life, death, and the unseen forces that shape them.

7 Songs for Spiders was recorded in the swamps of Southern Louisiana with Riggs’ band of “Cajun cosmonauts,” and draws inspiration from gospel, proto-metal, and world music. Riggs has long been known for his ability to weave beauty from darkness, a talent that he channels into this track.

Riggs shares, reflecting on the influence of his Acadiana home on his artistry:

“There’s a vacuum for rock music here in ‘Cajun hell,’ so it’s the perfect place to go inside yourself–where I’ve always gone.”

With ‘sunshine felt the darkness smile,’ Dax Riggs invites listeners into his apocalyptic soundscape, blending ethereal dreamscapes with heavy guitar and enigmatic vocals. As Riggs prepares to take the stage in Lafayette, LA, on February 22, this single sets the tone for what promises to be a groundbreaking return.
