After canceling shows last week because of the Los Angeles wildfires, Jimmy Kimmel returned to his late night program on Monday. It was an appropriately emotional episode, highlighted by Dawes delivering a special performance of their ode to the City of Angles, “Time Spent in Los Angeles.”
Taken from the band’s 2011 sophomore album, Nothing Is Wrong, the track took on special meaning as they played it in front of images of communities coming together amidst the wildfires. Dawes is made up of siblings Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith, the latter of whom lost everything in the Altadena blaze; his wife is due to have their first child in just a few weeks.
A GoFundMe set up by a friend to help Griffin recover from the devastation has already raised over $200,000 (of a $175,000 goal), and Dawes’ performance on Kimmel came in support of MusiCares. Watch Dawes’ sweet, sad rendition of “Time Spent in Los Angeles” below.
We at Consequence are also supporting MusiCares in their work to help music industry professionals recover with our new “All for LA: Protect Live Music” benefit T-shirt. 100% of proceeds go to benefit MusiCares, while a number of other merch items — including long sleeve shirts, tees, and beanies — will have proceeds donated to World Central Kitchen to help them feed those impacted by and fighting to contain the LA wildfires.

Kimmel’s opening monologue is also worth a watch, as he touched on the hardships LA is facing and the beauty of watching people come together. He even interviewed viral hero Steve Guttenberg, who’s been seen all over the city pitching in. Elsewhere, Snoop Dogg stopped by the studio to talk about his experiences during the fires, the potential of a benefit concert — and meeting Paul McCartney. Watch it all below.
