Claude VonStroke has secured his place as a house music icon since the inception of Dirtybird Records back in 2005. He’s now announced a hiatus for the next year, with plans to pursue his bass alias and birth name project, Barclay Crenshaw.
The news comes just after Crenshaw’s opening set for Of The Trees at Red Rocks, a sold-out show which culminated in a momentous b2b set between the two bass artists and paved the way for a new future for his alter ego.
“Next year is a whole new chapter for me,” he said in a statement shared on social media. “As you know bass has always been a huge part of my identity even in house music. I’m taking a hiatus from Claude VonStroke and building something totally new as Barclay Crenshaw.”
The last few VonStroke shows will unfold over the month of December, starting at Club Space in Miami and ending with a New Year’s Eve concert in San Diego.
“I’ve left Dirtybird Records in good hands and my new project is going to be awesome,” Crenshaw added. “I’ll see you back in the underground.”
After December, Crenshaw will unveil new music as well as a 2024 tour. His website has been updated and will become an information hub for tour announcements and music releases. According to the site, his upcoming releases over the next year include bootlegs, mixtapes and a slew of new singles.
Fans can also expect special visual art by Daniel Martin Diaz at Crenshaw’s events, showcasing “coded art and epic visuals depicting ancient alien abductions, new psychedelic planets and explorations of time and space.”
