Carla Guevara on being a supportive mom to KATSEYE’s Sophia Laforteza

‘Dream come true’: KATSEYE excited over performing in the Philippines

(1st UPDATE) Guevara says the KATSEYE moms have a pact where at least one of them should be with the group wherever they go

MANILA, Philippines – No one is more proud of KATSEYE’s Sophia Laforteza for representing the Philippines and Southeast Asia than her own mom — actress Carla Guevara.

“I’m so proud because she did it all on her own…. She’s a straight-A student…. Never did she tell me [when she was younger] that she wanted to be a performing artist,” she told reporters in a mix of English and Filipino after KATSEYE’s media conference in Manila on Wednesday, September 18.

Guevara said that when Sophia told her that she plans to move to Los Angeles to train and pursue her dream to become a global superstar, the actress told her daughter to “go for it.”

“With all my children, whatever they’re doing in life, as long as they’re making the most out of it…then that’s what’s most important,” she added.

Guevara also shared the bond she has with her fellow KATSEYE moms, saying that they made a WhatsApp group chat after the girls started their journey as a group.

“We’re just so proud of our daughters and we call each one of them our daughters. We made a pact that whichever country they go to, there should always be a mom that’s there.”

Her tip to parents with children who have a dream to make it in the music industry: “Love means supporting and accepting your children 100%. Whatever, whoever they are, that’s how you show your love to your children.”

Meanwhile, Sophia’s father, chef Godfrey Laforteza, posted a photo of their reunion on Wednesday, September 18. “My best birthday gift eeeevvvvaahhhh this year,” he wrote in the caption on his Instagram post.

Guevara earlier told reporters that Godfrey has not seen his daughter for three years.

KATSEYE is a group under HYBE Labels and Geffen Records composed of six members —  Lara, Sophia, Yoonchae, Megan, Daniela, and Manon. They debuted through the survival show The Debut: Dream Academy and released their first EP SIS (Soft Is Strong) on August 16.

Netflix recently released the Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE documentary series on August 21, which featured behind-the-scenes footage from the training program and survival show that created the group. – Rappler.com
