Bust Containing Lemmy's Ashes Escorted by Convoy of Bikers

A procession of 55 Harley-Davidson bikers helped transport a bust containing the ashes of Motörhead’s Lemmy Kilmister to the Nottingham, UK music venue Rock City on Monday (August 12th).

The bikers rode out from the completion of the Bloodstock Open Air festival at Catton Park in Derbyshire for about an hour’s drive, escorting a truck containing the bust.

Upon arriving at Rock City, a ceremony was held to embed the bust in a lavish alcove in the venue’s brick wall alongside an “Ace of Spades” plaque bearing Lemmy’s name. The bust will remain on display throughout the year at Rock City — where Motörhead played 10 shows between 1987 and 2006 — and return to the Bloodstock festival grounds each August.

“It’s been a very emotional weekend for all involved in the ‘Lemmy Forever’ tribute at Bloodstock,” said festival co-director Vicky Hungerford (via Blabbermouth). “The send-off today with 55 Harley Davidsons taking the bust to Rock City in the Bloodstock truck was the finale to a superb weekend of tributes to our rock god Lem.”

The bust was part of a full-on Lemmy installation at Bloodstock, which included a recreation of his dressing room, complete with personal items and artifacts. In the words of Motörhead manager Todd Singerman, the festival in Derbyshire was always “a special place for Motörhead and for Lemmy.”

“The people and the energy matched Lemmy’s values perfectly,” Singerman had said in a statement in March. “[Festival organizers] Alan [Hicks] and Vicky were also great friends and basically family of Lemmy, as he was the reason that they originally got together. This is definitely a fitting honor in the continuing series of enshrinements of Lemmy’s ashes in his most loved places.”

The ashes of Lemmy have now been spread far and wide, from his favorite LA haunt, the Rainbow Bar & Grill, to Hellfest in France, where they are enshrined in a massive statue. Metallica’s James Hetfield even has a Motörhead tattoo with ink containing Lemmy’s ashes.
