Bruce Dickinson and Z2 Comics have announced The Mandrake Project: Year One, a graphic novel that compiles the first four issues of the Iron Maiden singer’s Mandrake Project comic-book series. A deluxe edition was printed with ink mixed with soil from legendary poet William Blake’s grave.
Last year, Dickinson released the solo album The Mandrake Project, along with four issues of the accompanying comic-book series of the same name. He recently announced a North American tour in support of the project, kicking off August 22nd in Anaheim, California (pick up tickets here).

In addition to collecting issues 1 through 4, the deluxe edition of The Mandrake Project: Year One is packed with other extras as described below in a press release:
“The oversized 12”x12”, 184-page volume Deluxe Editions include an extensive series of interviews and essays recounting the road Dickinson and the creative team took in bringing the album, tour, and comic series to life. With an introduction by Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter, the book is housed in an exquisite slipcase with a rotating embossed Mandrake dial and is bound with a sealing ribbon and gilt paper edging. The case also contains four exclusive foil collectors cards and the cast metal Mandrake Project medallion seen in the comic and music videos. This book is the must have item for all lovers of Iron Maiden, Bruce Dickinson, and supernatural tales!”

In May 2024, Dickinson became a member of the William Blake Cottage Trust, which overseas 18th and 19th century English poet’s only surviving house. As an homage to Blake, who inspired The Mandrake Project, soil from his grave was collected and mixed with ink to print the deluxe editions of The Mandrake Project: Year One.
“William Blake has given me so much over the years and I want to repay the debt by helping to restore the Cottage,” stated Dickinson. “Despite his impact on the world, there is no center for Blake, nowhere people can visit to see where he actually lived and worked during a key part of his life. I want to change this.”
The Mandrake Project: Year One will be released August 5th, and is available to pre-order as a signed deluxe edition ($299.99), a deluxe edition ($99.99), and a 9″ x 9″ standard edition ($34.99) from the Z2 Comics online shop.
