Brittney Spencer has shared a preview of her forthcoming debut album, My Stupid Life, with a new single called “Night In.”
Produced by frequent collaborator Daniel Tashian — and even featuring subtle background vocals from Spencer’s friend Maren Morris –the bass-laden “Night In” details a homebody’s dream: Turning your phone off, donning sweatpants from high school, and turning on whichever reality show is taking over the lives of you and your friends. Spencer blends rock ‘n’ roll roots with layered choruses of Southern twangs to create the sprawling image of an impromptu night in with the girls: “Ain’t gotta go broke/ To catch a vibe/ Got everything we’ll ever need here on this couch,” she sings. Slated for a January 19th release via Elektra, My Stupid Life will encapsulate Spencer’s barriers and triumphs in the country music scene, and how her identity propels her forward as an up-and-coming artist. Pre-orders can be made here.
Spencer also recently sat down with Anne Erickson on Consequence’s Beyond the Boys Club podcast to talk about My Stupid Life, Nashville, and the importance of diversity in her scene.
