A Britney Spears biopic based on her best-selling memoir, The Woman in Me, is in the works at Universal Pictures. Wicked director Jon M. Chu and Marc Platt are attached to develop the film.
Spears announced news of the “secret project” on social media, telling fans that Platt has “always made my favorite movies.” As a producer, Platt has worked on films like the Legally Blonde series, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, La La Land, and Wicked.

In the memoir, Spears opened up about how she felt “infantilized” during her conservatorship, revealed she had an abortion with Justin Timberlake, and accused *NSYNC — particularly Timberlake — of “try[ing] too hard” to fit in with Black artists.
The first installment of Chu’s film adaptation of Wicked, which stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, opens in theaters on November 22nd, 2024. Revisit the official trailer here.
Meanwhile, Wicked Part Two is currently slated for November 26th, 2025.
