Bon Iver has released his fifth studio album, SABLE, fABLE.
Produced by Bon Iver mastermind Justin Vernon along with Jim-E Stack, SABLE, fABLE is a continuation of the three-song SABLE EP that arrived last October as a prologue of sorts. Now, the project’s 12 tracks are available in their entirety, showcasing Vernon’s enduring knack for blending visceral songcraft with inventive production.
Standout tracks like the single “Everything Is Peaceful Love” and the Dijon and Flock of Dimes-featuring “Day One” are exemplary of that sound, pairing soulful, melodic vocals with deconstructed pop arrangements, lush with beeps, boops, samples, and tasteful textural touches, like the the pedal steel on the former track.

Other highlights include the “If Only I Could Wait” with Danielle Haim, as well as the SABLE portion of the album, which explores an emotional arc “from accepting anxiety to accepting guilt to accepting hope.”

Meanwhile, Vernon recently promoted the album with an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, describing the difference between the SABLE and fABLE part of the album as being like The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and confirming that the pinkish hue of the artwork is salmon, not pink (hence the salmon-y press pics).
