Blue Man Group Epically Perform My Chemical Romance Classic

Drumeo’s “For the First Time” series is getting so popular that it’s attracting acts from all over the entertainment world. The latest installment features performance artists Blue Man Group taking on the My Chemical Romance classic “Welcome to the Black Parade.”

As we’ve seen in past editions of “For the First Time,” a drummer is challenged to play along to a song after hearing it for the first time. Previous episodes have featured Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith crushing a Thirty Seconds to Mars song and teen sensation Nandi Bushell taking on a Twisted Sister classic.

Blue Man Group have been around in various incarnations for more than 35 years, and currently have ongoing shows in New York City, Boston, Chicago, and Las Vegas (pick up tickets here). The troupe was so impressed with the “For the First Time” series that they contacted Drumeo and requested to take part in the challenge.

Drumeo flew down to New York City, where they challenged the three “Blue Men” and their musical director Josh Matthews to play My Chemical Romance’s “Welcome to the Black Parade.” At first, they listened to the song minus the drum track, with Matthews taking notes. Meanwhile, the Blue Men goofed around and did the silly things they are known for during their theatrical performances.

When it came to actually playing the song, Blue Man Group utilized an array of their percussive props and instruments, including PVC tubes, barrel drums, and more, as Matthews played a traditional drum kit. The result is an epic and grand rendition of the emo anthem.
