Blackpink’s “Pink Venom” quickly surges past 100 million YouTube views, becoming the biggest debut of 2022.
K-pop sensation Blackpink is having a very impressive comeback. The release of the group’s dance-fueled video for empowering anthem “Pink Venom” had attained an outstanding 86.2 million views within 24 hours. Within 30 hours, it surged to over 100 million views, with 6 million likes on YouTube — number four on the YouTube 24-hour views rankings overall and the biggest debut of 2022.
Blackpink — consisting of members Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa — also holds the number three spot for 24-hour views with “How You Like That,” which reached 86.3 million in June 2020.
BTS still have the top two spots with 108.2 million views for “Butter” and 101.1 million for “Dynamite,” within 24 hours of their debut. Blackpink also holds the number five spot with “Ice Cream,” featuring Selena Gomez, with 79 million views in August 2020. YouTube’s 24-hour views metric has rapidly become a measure of a track’s instant popularity.
“Pink Venom” is a pre-release single from Blackpink’s upcoming album Born Pink, due to release on September 16. The song is a pop/rap track with lyrics in Korean and English, with a nod to Taylor Swift with the line, “Look what you made us do.”
Blackpink is scheduled to perform at the MTV Video Music Awards on August 28 before kicking off their Born Pink World Tour from October 15 to June 21, 2023.
“Pink Venom” is undoubtedly a successful track, but YouTube may have helped drive the video’s views with their #PinkVenomChallenge on YouTube Shorts. The challenge invites fans to create and share their best Blackpink dance moves using the short-form YouTube Shorts feature. The challenge continues until September 15.
Blackpink’s Jennie will also appear in The Weeknd’s upcoming HBO series “The Idol.” Co-starring Lily-Rose Depp, “The Idol” takes place amidst a seedy music industry backdrop and follows the complicated relationship between a blossoming pop idol and a self-help guru.
