After nabbing his first record in Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, Marc Mysterio has now set his sights on a different kind of knockout.
Fresh off the success of his track “The Dancefloor,” which debuted on the chart at #41, Mysterio is ready to dance under a different spotlight: in the boxing ring. The DJ and producer has challenged YouTube star-turned-boxer Jake Paul for the World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver Bridgerweight Championship, a newly formed title in the weight class of 200 to 224 pounds.
“Marc Mysterio is a force in the music world and the boxing ring and, moreover, is a close friend of the WBC and affiliated with WBC Cares, the charity arm of the WBC,” said Jill Diamond, the Secretary for the World Boxing Council, in a press release shared with EDM.com. “We support Marc’s efforts in Boxing.”
A seasoned and undefeated boxer, Mysterio brings a rich legacy to the proposed match. A descendant of the renowned bare-knuckle fighter Pádraig Dillon, he inherits a fighting spirit steeped in history going all the way back to the 1840s. Meanwhile, Paul’s record stands at 8-1 with notable victories over MMA veterans Nate Diaz, Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley, among others.
While the world await’s Paul’s response to the challenge, the fight has a proposed date of March 16th, coinciding with St. Patrick’s Day Weekend.
