The death of Avicii led to countless tributes from artists inspired by his music, including large-scale tribute concerts, dedicated satellite radio stations and a pair of high-profile Netflix documentaries. The EDM icon’s music is returning to the stage in a new performing arts context, courtesy of a former collaborator.
Fredrik “Benke” Rydman was developing on a world tour with Avicii, but he decided to quit touring prior to his tragic death by suicide. Now, the Swedish choreographer is honoring the DJ’s legacy with a new theater production inspired by his music.
Lonely Together is an interactive play that will literally surround the audience with Avicii’s iconic sound. According to its synopsis, the “audience, ensemble, dancers, and musicians will move freely” onstage as the 360° show unfolds. The audience is free to move around as they please to get a closer look at the action, and less ambitious theatergoers can sit in traditional seats if they’d like. will be available for the less ambitious theatergoers.
The story of Lonely Together revolves around “several individuals sharing their deepest secrets” who all “carry pain but also the hope for a brighter tomorrow.” The play is soundtracked by live renditions of tracks from Avicii’s timeless catalog.
Lonely Together will debut in Avicii’s hometown of Stockholm on August 29th, 2025 at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern. Tickets are on sale now.
