Deadline reports Anderson .Paak will make his feature directorial debut in the dramedy K-POPS!
The project will essentially have .Paak’s fingerprints all over it as he developed it with rapper Jon “Dumbfoundead” Park, co-wrote it with Khaila Amazan, and is co-producing it under his company Apeshit Films. The musician is also starring in the movie alongside his son Soul Rasheed.
According to Deadline, K-POPS! tells the story of a “a washed-up musician who travels to Korea to write for K-pop stars, discovering that his long-lost son is set to front one of the country’s hottest new groups.” The protagonist attempts to revitalize his own career through his son’s success but comes to realize that “fatherhood is much more fulfilling and meaningful than stardom.”
“My mom is from Korea but she was adopted so I never knew anything about my Korean heritage until I met my wife. This movie is a reflection on my experience learning about this part of myself alongside my wife and son – and spending even more time with them!,” .Paak said. “I knew this would be something I should write and direct, and Stampede Ventures took a chance and trusted that I could pull this off. I’m excited to bring it to the big screen.”
Production is expected to get underway sometime towards the end of this year.
Silk Sonic, the duo consisting of .Paak and Bruno Mars, will conclude their Las Vegas residency later this year. Last month, they took the Grammys by storm, completing what .Paak referred to as a “clean sweep” by winning all four categories they were nominated in, including Song of the Year and Record of the Year.
