A new chapter of Afterlife is unfolding in the wake of a momentous partnership with Interscope.
Under the deal, Interscope will distribute all Afterlife releases, including both future recordings and its existing catalog, EDM.com has learned. The UMG-owned label will also release the debut album by Anyma, Afterlife’s crown jewel and one half of Tale of Us.
Launched back in 2016 by the Italian dance music duo, the Afterlife brand has become the touchstone for emotive techno music. Its haunting, cerebral approach to the genre has effectively reinvented it for today’s generation, mutating it into a dazzling—and oftentimes chilling—music experience.
“The partnership signifies not just the incredible growth and recognition Tale Of Us’ music has achieved but the aspiration and love for electronic music that Matteo and Carmine are so passionate about,” said the duo’s managers, Managers Aurelia Ortiz and Evan Baker, in a press release.
“Over their tremendous careers as artists and label owners, Carmine and Matteo have helped shape dance music culture for an entire generation,” added John Janick, Chairman and CEO of Interscope Geffen A&M. “We are excited to collaborate with them to bring their music to an even larger global audience.”
Anyma today released the album’s first single, “Welcome to the Opera,” a high-profile collaboration with Grimes that reflects the metaphysical aesthetic of Afterlife, which explores sentience and its capacity to form bonds. His debut album is expected to release later this year.
