Afro Nation expands to the US with Burna Boy and WizKid headlining the first Afro Nation Miami. The world’s biggest Afrobeats festival arrives at LoanDepot Park in Miami, Florida, on May 27 and 28, 2023. The festival’s first event in the continental United States, Afro Nation Miami 2023 follows up the massively successful Afro Nation festivals in Portugal, Puerto Rico, and Ghana.
Uniting the nations of Africa with fantastic music and brilliant spectacle, Afro Nation is the world’s largest showcase for one of the world’s fastest-growing genres. Following successful festivals in Africa, Europe, and the Caribbean, Afro Nation’s next step is Afro Nation Miami 2023, its first festival in the continental US.
Like previous Afro Nation events, the Miami festival highlights the best in Afrobeats, dance hall, hip-hop, amapiano, and other Black-led musical genres. Headlined by Afrobeats giants Burna Boy and WizKid and featuring a robust lineup of artists from Africa, the Caribbean, and across the globe, Afro Nation Miami takes off at LoanDepot Park on May 27 and May 28, 2023.
Afro Nation Miami boasts a strong lineup that illustrates the diversity and strength of Black music worldwide. The inaugural Miami festival promises performances from Nigerian superstars Rema and Asake, dance hall legend Beenie Man, rising African stars CKay, BNXN, and Black Sherif, French rapper Franglish, and many more. Shining a spotlight on the South African genre of amapiano, Afro Nation Miami presents the Piano People stage, headlined by Major League DJZ and Uncle Waffles, featuring many more of the genre’s biggest names.
Afro Nation experienced a groundbreaking 2022, establishing itself as a significant tastemaker and advocate for African Music since its founding in 2019. Afro Nation brought a group of high-powered international musicians and over 40,000 fans to the beaches of Portimáo in July for the second Afro Nation Portugal. Headliners included WizKid, Burna Boy, and Megan Thee Stallion.
Earlier in the year, the festival made its North American debut with Afro Nation Puerto Rico and closed out 2022 with Afro Nation Ghana in Accra — Afro Nation’s first event in Ghana since 2019. Afro Nation festivals are dedicated to providing a global platform for African music.
In addition, Afro Nation teams with BBC Radio 1xtra and the Official Charts Company to host a weekly UK Afrobeats Chart Show. Last year, Afro Nation partnered with Billboard to present the first-ever US Afrobeats Chart. Afro Nation is in a prime position to shine an even brighter spotlight on African artists this year, with more milestones to reach and unique sets in the future.
