An 8 Mile TV adaptation is in the works with Eminem involved, according to comments from 50 Cent.

The rapper recently appeared on an episode of the ‘Big Boy TV’ podcast to reveal the news. “I’m gonna bring his 8 Mile to television,” the rapper says of the project. “We’re in motion. It’s gonna be big. I ain’t got no duds. I’m battin’ a hundred, I’m battin’ a hundred.”

50 Cent says he believes an 8 Mile television series needs to be made so people understand Eminem’s rise to fame. The 8 Mile film was released in 2002 and was directed by Curtis Hanson. It starred Eminem and featured a story loosely based on the rapper’s life and his rise to stardom. 50 Cent says the TV show would focus more on providing a ‘backstory’ and the rapper’s younger years.

“I think it should be there for his legacy because it’s important to me that they understand it,” 50 Cent told the hosts about the 8 Mile TV adaptation.

He says he imagines the TV adaptation as more like a re-imagining of the story, similar to ‘Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ reboot that launched last year. “I wanna be able to show and offer a lot more details – things that you would say in an interview or different things that you’ve already used that you put out there and stuff like that,” he says about the series. “You’ll see those kind of things surface in the temperament of the characters.”

The soundtrack for 8 Mile has dominated the Billboard charts since its release in 2002. Eminem took home an Oscar that year for Best Original Song for “Lose Yourself.” Following news of his appearance, the rapper shared a screenshot of an article and added “Yeah and you thought I was playing around. I’m so serious man. This is gonna be crazy!”
