It was two years later, in 2018, that Danae came out as gay.

Danae and Mandie’s shared social media post read: “We are both deeply saddened to share that we have decided to go out separate ways.
“This decision did not come easy as we both have so much love and respect for one another… but it is truly what is best for both of us.
“We have felt your guys’ love for us over the years and have soaked it in with gratitude.
“We know so much of our relationship was in the public eye but if you could respect our privacy as we navigate through this extremely difficult time it would be greatly appreciated.

She said: “I will do my best to get through this and make it short and sweet.
“Cos I am so ready to come out on the other side of this, from this pain, from this heartache, from this feeling of hopelessness.
“But I wanted to tell y’all that I appreciate your love and your support and the messages and the comments and just your empathy through all of this.
“There’s times where you just see somebody else go through something and you’re like ‘thank god I’m not having to go through that’ or ‘I’ll never have to go through that’ and then you do and it just takes you on a damn rollercoaster.”
Turning to her career, she continued: “I wanted to make this video because the one thing that’s gotten me through the pain and heartache of life itself ever since I was a little kid has been making other people laugh.
“It’s the thing that brings me the most joy. It’s the thing that fulfils me on a level that nothing else can and I’m gonna get back to that.
“It’s gonna be a part of my healing journey.”
