Lorde has officially announced her new album: titled Virgin, it’s set for release on June 27th via Republic Records.
The project marks the New Zealand artist’s fourth album to date following 2021’s Solar Power. Speaking about Virgin in a message to fans, Lorde wrote,” The color of the album is clear. Like bathwater, windows, ice, spit. Full transparency. The language is plain and unsentimental. The sounds are the same wherever possible. I was trying to see myself, all the way through. I was trying to make a document that reflected my femininity: raw, primal, innocent, elegant, openhearted, spiritual, masculine.”
“I’m proud and scared of this album. There’s nowhere to hide. I believe that putting the deepest parts of ourselves to music is what sets us free,” she added.
In keeping with this theme, the album’s cover artwork features an X-ray scan of a pelvis with an IUD visible. Check it out below.
Virgin is preceded by its lead single, “What Was That,” co-produced by Lorde, Dan Nigro, and Jim-E Stack.
